Kathmandu, Nepal – April 16, 2026 — The Rotary Club of Solukhumbu has been awarded a (Certificate of Appreciation) by the Nepal Sherpa Women Association, Narayanchaur, Kathmandu, on the occasion of their New Year celebration program. The honor was presented to President Karma Sherpa in recognition of the club’s outstanding contribution to social service and community development, particularly in the mountain regions of Nepal. The award was handed over by President Thakchi Sherpa of the Nepal Sherpa Women Association, who expressed appreciation for the strong collaboration and emphasized the importance of continuing this partnership in the days ahead to further empower and educate girls and women. The Rotary Club of Solukhumbu has been working in close partnership with the Nepal Sherpa Women Association to support girls’ education, women empowerment, awareness programs, and cultural preservation in Himalayan communities. This collaboration has played a vital role in creating opportunities for women and girls while safeguarding the rich cultural heritage of the region. The award ceremony was attended by over 300 community members, leaders, and representatives from various organizations, with distinguished guests including Yangkila Sherpa, Bagmati Province Parliament Member and Former Minister for Tourism; Nima Lama Yholmo, President of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities; Shobha Sunuwar, Chairperson of the Nepal National Indigenous Women’s Federation (NIWF); and Lhakpa Thile, President of the Sherpa Association. During the same ceremony, Yangkila Sherpa was also honored for her continuous support and advocacy on behalf of the government, recognizing her role in promoting community development and indigenous rights. The event also served as a platform to exchange New Year greetings and strengthen collaboration among organizations working for community development. According to the association, the Rotary Club’s continuous support, leadership, and dedication have made a meaningful impact at the grassroots level, inspiring positive social change. Receiving the honor, President Karma Sherpa expressed heartfelt gratitude and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to continue working together for the upliftment of mountain communities. This recognition marks another significant milestone for the Rotary Club of Solukhumbu, highlighting its ongoing role in advancing education, empowerment, and sustainable community development across Nepal.
